Nahant
The residential area of Nahant consists of 1 square mile and is the smallest municipality by area in Massachusetts with a population of approximately 3,000. The area was called Nahant by Native Americans which meant “the point” or almost an island.
The small area has ten beaches along its coast with the largest being Nahant Beach. With limited space comes limited housing inventory. Therefore cottages and homes are coveted and most often come at a premium price, yet nearly all afford easy access and sometimes views of the water.
Nahant being so small only has an elementary school for children preschool through sixth grade. For middle and high schools, kids attend nearby Swampscott schools.
